Sickle Cell Warriors PHX

My daughter, Hassana, is currently kicking sickle cell anemia's butt! Throughout the course of her journey, my husband and I have observed a real void in the support of parents specifically encouraging them to be active members in the course of their child's or their own health care. We've started small with a simple Facebook group. We hope to grow into meet-ups, fundraisers, etc. Feel free to pass this along to whomever would benefit. Thank you.

Exploring the 5 Senses

Hassana and I had fun learning about the 5 senses. We made it interactive by arranging hearing, seeing, smelling, touching and lastly, tasting tests. Above you see our taste test with nachos, a pickle, sunflower butter, mustard, and soy sauce. Sana loooovvveddd this! She even replicated it for her Daddy when he got home, blindfold and all.

My darling dainty dolls participated in a fashion show recently.  I firmly believe that opportunities like this are essential for confidence and self esteem building. We are fighting against so many factors that can negatively affect our children's perception of themselves, they NEED to be on a stage representing beauty, elegance, and just plain fabulousness! So thanks, Rajii and Niya Clothing, for allowing my girls to show the world what fab princesses they are!

Montessori Monday ~ Counting

Diamonds are a girl's best friend even at age 3! I wrote the numerals 1-10 on each of Sana's fingers. As she put on her Dollar Tree diamond rings, she says each number. She can already count to 15, but now she's learning to recognize the numerals 1-10.

Montessori Monday ~ Transferring Water With a Spoon

Sana loved this activity. She would spoon all the water and then start over. We are really trying to work on concentration and remaining focused until we complete our work.

Graduation Day!

Our Babygirl is officially a big gurl! Just shy of her third birthday, my baby is weaned. Tear . . . Tear, I can really bear witness to the benefits of extended breastfeeding. We have enjoyed our time, and are bonded for life, but my little one is growing up. Tears are forming in my eyes as I think about the fact that I no longer have a baby baby. The twins will be 7 soon! Well, it's on to new adventures and challenges. I'm preparing for a major shift in the parenting dynamics soon. Welcome to Preschoolhood, Sana Sunshine.

Adding baking soda to a bowl of colored vinegar is fun way to teach cause and effect to little ones. They get a kick out of the fizz!

Scrap and Yap!

I have two new scrapbooking partners. Well, one partner and an assistant. We finally sat down to scrap pictures from the spa party which was eons ago! Sina's came out cute. I'll have to post them later.

I know My Name!

Babygirl is learning to recognize her name. I got these cards from the dollar store and simply wrote different names on them. Hassana's job is pick out her name in the line up. She gets it about 3 out of 4 times. Next I'll add in her middle name then the last name.

Feeding the Clam

The activity was inspired by Chasing Cheerios' Feeding the Frog. Hassana will start using a pair of large tweezers for these type activities this week.

Who knew hammering tees into styrofoam required some much dexterity skills? Well, your girl has mastered them. Yeah, Hassana!

New on the Montessori Shelf

Awwww.

Carefully placing marbles on the suction cups of those bathroom thingys. It's harder than it looks. Right now she's using her hand. The next step would be to give her some large tweezers to work with.

Sorting! I have been so ready for this one. I was amazed once again at how quickly she caught on. Now she can fly through this by herself. She'll even correct herself if she places one in the wrong compartment. Genuis! Now I've got to find more sorting materials!

My Montessori-minded husband brought home the craft kits for the wooden sorter. Way to go, Tariq!
