My darling dainty dolls participated in a fashion show recently.  I firmly believe that opportunities like this are essential for confidence and self esteem building. We are fighting against so many factors that can negatively affect our children's perception of themselves, they NEED to be on a stage representing beauty, elegance, and just plain fabulousness! So thanks, Rajii and Niya Clothing, for allowing my girls to show the world what fab princesses they are!

The Adventures of Princess Yasina

Yasina wrote and illustrated a book. Her idea, her vision, her work. This is what's important to me as a facilitator of my children's education. I love seeing their ideas and creativity come to life. It makes me so proud. Way to go, Yasina.

Egg Carton Wind Chimes

This was such a fun project that I saw on The Crafty Crow. I cut up a 5 1/2 dozen egg carton. The children painted them, and we allowed them to dry. Next, Yasina used a needle and thread to connect the pods together. And wha-la! Now we are waiting on Tariq to hang it up so we can see what it sounds like in the wind.

I have two new scrapbooking partners. Well, one partner and an assistant. We finally sat down to scrap pictures from the spa party which was eons ago! Sina's came out cute. I'll have to post them later.

Homeschool Science Fair 2010

Awesome, awesome, awesome! And I don't use that word often, but it describes our first science fair perfectly. It was just a wonderful learning experience from a parent/teacher standpoint and the children had a ball. Can you say win/win situation? The fair is sponsored annually by the Arizona Science Center. It's not judged, but it's a chance for homeschoolers to show off their scientific prowess to the public.
Amir's project was, How do rockets work? We built a model rocket and launched it with a ballon. He learned that for every action there must be an equal and opposite reaction, one of Newton's Law. From a 6 year old perspective, when the air goes down from the balloon, the rocket goes up.
Yasina dealt with how many people wear glasses. She observed 108 people while we were in Chicago. 55 people wore glasses, 53 did not. Her hypothesis was right. She said a lot of people were glasses.
We learned tons about science doing these projects including lots of vocabulary words. What I liked most was that at the fair, the children had to explain their projects to anyone who came along. Talk about socialization and communication skills, this was a great test of both. A test that Amir and Yasina passed with flying colors.

Happy 6th Birthday Amir and Yasina!!!

OMG, 6 years has gone by! Where did the time go? As sat here with tears in my eyes (Oh, who am I kidding, I balling.) looking at this picture, I remember when I had to feed them, carry them, change them, hold their heads up for goodness sake. Well, look at them now . . . ready for soccer and karate, making friends, calling someone other than me their best friend as well as arguing and name calling sometimes. My babies are growing up and wow, it hurts a little. My role is changing from not so much a full time caregiver to more of a guide, a helper. I don't know what Almighty God has put inside them, but with His help I'll be there to protect, cultivate, and encourage. MY BABIES ARE 6! Happy Birthday to you both, and Mommy loves you more than you may ever know.

Pretzel Fun

We made pretzels using this recipe the other day. It's been a minute since we've done some baking, but we're getting back into our groove. It's funny now that we have to make way for Babygirl, but she holds her own. It's really not that hard to find something she can do. Cooking with the children has always been a constant in my home. Now the twins are actually helpful (LOL), they can cut up veggies, mix well, and measure with a little supervision. Sorry no picture of the final product, they went too fast, but we covered them brown sugar and cinnamon. Yummo!
