MLK Day Celebration

The children and I along 2 sisters from the mosque and their children went to the MLK Celebration here in Phoenix today. We could not believe they were charging for the "kidde land" activities, jump castles and such. With all the corporate sponsorships, you would think it would be free. No, $10 for a wristband to ride all the rides. What a shame! Using Dr. King's name to make money off his people, shame on them. Well, you know as genius Black women, we would find a way out of noway. We brought 2 wristbands and taught a lesson in taking turns. That's Right! No way they were going to make $110 off us for some cheesy rides.

Anywho, we left the festival and went to Kiwanas Park. We all had a good time. The children played and the mommies swapped recipes.

I taught on Dr. King this morning. I told Amir and Yasina that Dr. King was a strong man who believed his people deserved Freedom, Justice, and Equality just like we do. We listened to the "I've been to the mountaintop" speech, watched a picture slideshow, and showed them a pic of Dr. King and the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad. I also told them that King was murdered because of his work for Black people.

Well, today was a good day.
