Our First Trip to the Symphony!

It was an excellent performance. The passion and love for music we witnessed from mere 14 year olds had me in tears. I loved it. Amir went to sleep at one point (LOL), but said he enjoyed it. Yasina, on the other hand, loved every minute. She was especially impressed with a young pianist. She's starting lessons soon!

Disney on Ice

We were blessed with tickets to see the latest Disney on Ice show. It was so nice. The children loved it. It was cold though. Next time, we'll bring heavier coats!

Ballet Under the Stars

The children and I had the pleasure of enjoying a professional ballet performance under a beautiful night sky last night. The performance was apart of a community program from Ballet Arizona. The girls were just awestruck. Ballerinas are just so graceful and dainty yet strong and powerful. What a lovely juxtaposition! I think even if you've never danced you could learn something of poise and posture. We just loved it. For future reference, we'll be at the amphitheater at least an hour early next year. I want to be up front! Look for this in your city.

The Snaggle-Toothed Princess

The first pic isn't the best, but the Princess has lost her first tooth. I read recently that losing baby teeth is major developmental milestone, and sure enough, she is getting so mature now. We had friends over the other night and after dinner, my Yasina hopped up and clear away the dishes from the table and asked if there was anything else she could do. She does a great job looking after her baby sister and entertaining her. Her behaviour has improved tremendously over the past few weeks. Many of you know she was having a hard time adjusting to not being the baby girl anymore. My sweet girl is really growing up.

No, Your Eyes are Not Deceiving You!

Amir and Yasina are really, actually touching a snake!
Not just any snake, a 20 foot python! And guess what? I touched it too! AAAAAAAAAAAAA

Rich, the Reptile Man, visited our library last week. We loved the show. It was so imformative and fun seeing and learning about the animals. I think the parents definitly enjoyed this as much as the children. Dewayne and I were in disbelief at far the Princess has come. A couple years ago, she would have torn the whole room up trying to get away from that snake and today she actually touched it. My little scary girl is growing up! My Mir was, of course, fearless as usual.
And no, Babygirl didn't touch the snake.

Hassana, How Old Are You?

We're starting a new family tradition this year for birthdays. No more big parties, we are observing the actual day with a intimate at-home celebration. This is an attempt to make the day more meaningful and not just about a party and presents. I want my children to look back at their childhood and have such beautiful memories to pass on and share with their children. Cute, Cute!
She was kind of scared of the fire,
But was ready to dig into that cupcake.
Yum, Yum
As a part of our family tradition, we went through Hassana's birthbox. The birthbox is simply filled with items from those first few months of life . . . newborn size diapers, clothes, hospital bracelets and hats, pacis, and a birthday dated newspaper, etc. As they get older the more amazing and sentimental these items will become.

Well, I pray you had a wonderful day, Babygirl. We loooovvvveee you!

Happy Birthday, Hassana!

These Are The Years
These are the years, the gentle years
The soft and sentimental years
when wee little fingers
reach and touch
and little eyes gaze
with wonder and trust,
when you love so tenderly
and so much.
These are the gentle years.
These are the years, the rainbow years.
The quiet walk on tip toe years,
the years of laughter
and smiles and sighs
when both of you watch
with misty eyes
the tiny bed
where a cherub lies.
These are the rainbow years.
These are the years, the tender years.
The blissful, sweet-surrender years
when your little treasure from above
is the soul and purpose and center of
your plans and dreams and dearest love.
These are the tender years.

Meet Our New Family Member

Bunker the Fish

Yes, we now have our very first family pet. Dewayne wanted to start small, which is wise because I don't have a great history with pets. Amir and Yasina were uber excited. I believe they would have stayed up all night watching Bunker if we had let them. Lord, please let me remember to feed it!

The Master and Princess Go Asian

The twins attempted to use chopsticks for the first time. Needless to say, they played until they hunger then it was time to break out the forks. The food just kept falling off. Amir even started stabbing his foood. So funny!
