Let's Get Crafty--Scripture Pictures

This project was so fun! It's a wonderful way to integrate the words of Allah into your household providing daily reminders.

You'll need

an old frame (thrift store find)
letter stickers (from the scrapbook aisle)
spray paint in your color of choice

The original print was a hunting theme and we just put the letters of the ayat we'd chosen right over it. I sprayed the frame a pretty purple and the print silver. You'll just spray paint right over the letters. When the print drys, carefully peel the letter stickers off, put your frame together and done. Enjoy!

Let's Get Crafty--Islamic Leather Bracelets

Finding crafts that my son would like can sometimes be a challenge. These burned leather bracelets were a HIT!

You'll need

Premade plain leather bracelets (Got ours at Micheal's Craft Store)
a wood burner
Imagination!

We wrote what we wanted to say on the bracelets first and then trace it with the wood burner. Enjoy!

Ramadan Mubarak!

Ramadan Greetings to all! Here we are in the last few days and I'm finally posting. This has by far been the most beautiful Ramadan I've experienced. After 3 years and pregnancy and nursing, I have no free pass for fasting from food and water from sun up to sun down. And guess what, I actually did it! I am so proud of myself! I finally feel that I am now at a place where I have the discipline to can change my eating habits and become holistically healthier. Allahuakbar! (Allah (God) is the Greatest!)

Ok, enough about me. The twins even tried to fast a couple times, it didn't last long. LOL.Their Ramadan project this year is hosting an Eid Fest. Eid is a celebration in honor of the end of Ramadan. It will be held here at the house. There will be decorations, a dessert table, and crafts. They are so excited about it.

Ramadan Mubarak!

Today is the 19th day of Ramadan 2009. So far, this month has been a time of reflection and reunion for me. I definitely have identified my passion in childbirth education. I've known this for years, but I have the tendancy like most women to put my needs aside to statisfy the needs and wants of others. So a month ago, I made a commitment to myself to work toward my goal every.single.day. And I have been with the help of Allah (God). I made so many strides in developing my class curriculum, making contacts, and learning more about supporting the needs of pregnant women. I've attended a birth conference and was blown away by how much progress has been made in understanding childbirth and even preconception. I.am.so.excited! Allah has really been blessing to make some important connections.

So be on the look-out for. . . A Mother's Worth Birth Services. Let's go get it!

Today marks the last day of Ramadan 2008. Blessed are those who were able to complete the fast and study. Time to feast!

My reflections and another craft later.

Ramadan Mubarak!

In other words, Happy Ramadan. Can you see the new moon? Well, it's currently Day 7, a full week into our holiday. Even though I'm nursing and thus not obligated to, I've been abstaining from food until dark each day. It's been going good, I'm pretty much use to it now. I'm staying on top of my reading this year even outlining as I go along. The biggie this year is that as a family we have given up TV this month. The only thing we have watched are school-related documentaries. This is the fast I am most thankful for, because our TV viewing, as a family, was getting out of control. I've never been against television, but it has to be limited. Before now, I wasn't going a good job of controlling how much I watched. I was limiting the shows the children watched, so they just watched what I was watching. Mostly HGTV and Food Network, but still a major time waster. It's kind of sad when your 5 year olds can identify Rachael Ray, Paula Dean, and Bobby Flay. LOL!

Ok, let's get on with the crafts . . .

We made a paper chain again this year.
We tear off one ring a day.
And color in the number of the day on the calendar.
This is our Ramadan display. The children decorated the red posterboard with markers. The posters above say Prayer (Salat), Fasting (Saum), and Charity (Zakat).
