Caterpillars and Butterflies

Amir and Yasina love the book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. (Really they love any book by Eric Carle.) So last weekend we made crafts in honor of the book. In the picture you see caterpillars made of pom poms and google eyes hot-glued together. The butterflies are painted sketch paper, folded in half, and I cut them into a butterfly shape. We also cut out the fruits and vegetables the caterpillar ate in the book. Making the butterflies provided us a lesson in symmetry. I was amazed at how well both children could retell this story. (Not that I haven't read it a 100 times.) Both can "read" it in almost exact words.
