Biomes: The Desert

Our Desert Diaroma
We kicked off our science lessons this year with a study of biomes or ecosystems. I love Charlotte Mason idea of using living books versus textbooks. In most cases if someone takes the time to write a book solely on a specific subject, that person probably has a passion for that topic. So I feel you get better information and a more well-rounded view from good ole nonfiction books. We are blessed that the library system here has a wonderful nonfiction children's selection. I love "shopping" online at the library website and am so thankful for the "Hold" option.

Deserts were first up. This one was pretty easy, because well we live in a desert! Some highlights were a wonderful National Geographic video about a young, Muslim boy named Adam who lived in the Sahara Desert in Africa. The children love animals, so we spent alot time talking about the scorpions, kangaroo rats, and rattlesnakes. Well, it's off to the grasslands!
