Ramadan Mubarak!

In other words, Happy Ramadan. Can you see the new moon? Well, it's currently Day 7, a full week into our holiday. Even though I'm nursing and thus not obligated to, I've been abstaining from food until dark each day. It's been going good, I'm pretty much use to it now. I'm staying on top of my reading this year even outlining as I go along. The biggie this year is that as a family we have given up TV this month. The only thing we have watched are school-related documentaries. This is the fast I am most thankful for, because our TV viewing, as a family, was getting out of control. I've never been against television, but it has to be limited. Before now, I wasn't going a good job of controlling how much I watched. I was limiting the shows the children watched, so they just watched what I was watching. Mostly HGTV and Food Network, but still a major time waster. It's kind of sad when your 5 year olds can identify Rachael Ray, Paula Dean, and Bobby Flay. LOL!

Ok, let's get on with the crafts . . .

We made a paper chain again this year.
We tear off one ring a day.
And color in the number of the day on the calendar.
This is our Ramadan display. The children decorated the red posterboard with markers. The posters above say Prayer (Salat), Fasting (Saum), and Charity (Zakat).

  3. Hello..I'm new to the homeschoolthing but I found your blog and maybe stalking it for awhile. I'm a t.v.aholic and I know my kids watch to much but it works so well when you need to get things done. Anyway, I have been thinking of making a points chart so they can earn t.v. time. And I will just have to cut back on my Law and Order...

    Great Job!
