I'd like to share an idea for improving reading comphension skills. After the twins have read a book, they choose two or three questions from a index card or recipe sized box to answer with me. The questions are as follows:
What do you think will happen next?
What did you like about the story?
What did you not like about the story?
What new word did you learn?
What was your favorite part of the story?
What was the setting of the story?
How would you describe the problem in the story? How was it resolved?
This adds a little interest to independent reading time and helps to ensure that not only are they reading, but they are understand what they've read.
