Countdown Day 17 ~ Making Ice Cream

Who knew an ice cream maker would be so difficult to find? Well, it proved to be impossible for us today, so we had to go to oh so delicious Plan B.

How to Make Ice Cream in a Bag

Ice
6 tbs rock salt (I found some labeled ice cream salt)
1/2 cup milk
1 tbs sugar
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
1 pint size Zip-loc bag
1 gallon size Zip-loc bag

Fill the large bag half full of ice and add the rock salt. Seal the bag.
Put the milk, vanilla, and sugar into the small bag.
Place the small bag inside the large bag and seal it again very, very well.
Shake until the mixture is ice cream. About 5 minutes

Putting in the ice
Sealing the bags
Shake!
Shake!
Eat!

  1. I've seen this done a few times and always wanted to do it. The children eat very little dairy, so I guess I'm waiting on a super special occasion, LOL. Looks like lots of fun.

  2. It really was fun. Do you do the rice milk? Maybe it would work with that too.
